Top 5 Cannabinoids
We are counting down the top five cannabinoids. This includes little known or low percentage cannabinoids. We judged our list on what delivers the most desired effects. You may have heard of them all but what you may not know is why they are important. While all of these compounds are well known, there are still lots of new things coming out as more and better research becomes available. Many labs can test for all of these compounds but dispensaries are not required to display all of them. We talked to Green Leaf Labs about what people should know about these complex and powerful elements of cannabis. I decided to put it into a top 5 because there around 100 total and ain’t nobody got time for that nonsense. So here is our list of the top 5 cannabinoids.
- Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid (THCA)
The main compound in raw cannabis, this cannabinoid is known to inhibit the cell growth of certain cancers and is known suppress some spasms. This compound is also not psychoactive so consuming it will not get you high. It can be converted to straight THC through time and application of heat.
- Cannabichromine (CBC)
While you won’t find this in the same levels as some of the other entrants on this list, CBC is known to have pain relieving and possesses antibiotic properties. This is prime territory for salves and creams that are looking to provide relief without the psychoactive effects.
- Cannabidiol (CBD)
This cannabinoid is non-psychoactive but has amazing pain relieving properties on top of being able to slow the growth of many cancers. This is one of the most common compounds found in mature cannabis so almost any dispensary will display these numbers.
- Delta-9 Tetrahyrocannabinol (THC)
You may be surprised to find this isn’t #1 but that’s how the cookie crumbles. THC is the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis. The primal nectar of the proverbial gods handed down over generations as the key to enlightenment and the doorway to Nirvana. Centuries of mankind have cultivated the cannabis plant for the potent cerebral high that this chemical compound of nature provides.
I can hear you right now. You’re like, “Adam, WTF? I’ve never even heard of that. How could it be higher on the list of top cannabinoids than THC? THC is the quintessential poster child of cannabis. Hell, some people ever confuse the two!” but trust me, this is where the magic happens.
- Cannabigerol (CBG)
You see, all of the other cannabinoids are made out of CBG. It’s like the stem cell of cannabis. If you want any other cannabinoid, you have to start with the grand daddy of them all. Not only that, but it has an impressive list of properties. CBG is an antibiotic, anti-fungal, analgesic and will reduce inflammation. With only a few enzyme adjustments, this rock star of a cannabinoid is able to morph into any and every compound you could want.
