Portland, Oregon – The Oregon Liquor Control Commission has approved another round of recreational licenses.

In total, there are 14 new Recreational Marijuana producers and a single wholesaler. The licensees approved today include Tier 1 and Tier 2 outdoor and mixed cultivation growers.  These are some of Oregon’s first licensed commercial recreational cannabis producers.

Let me start by congratulating these producers. These people have put more on the line than many people will ever have to begin with. Just the annual fee for Tier 1 growers is $3,750, and the annual fee for Tier 2 growers is $5,750. The annual license fee wholesalers, labs, processors, and retailers is $4,750. While a 3-5 thousand dollar annual licensing fee seems like a lot, it is one of the smaller fees a producer of this size has to pay.

With that said, let me quickly explain what tier 1 and 2 licenses are. Tier 1 outdoor growers are allowed to have a plant canopy up to 20,000 square feet, and Tier 2 outdoor growers are allowed to have a plant canopy between 20,001 to 40,000 square feet.   Mixed cultivation growers are allowed to have a combined indoor and outdoor canopy using a ratio so the total canopy does not exceed the tier designation.

So these are large farms that are in a whole different level of play than mom and pop cultivators.

I want to give each licensee their own shout out so without further ado, the producer licensees include:

Kit Johnston, (MariCo Farms) – Mixed, Tier 2, Yamhill County

Sol-Sisters, Inc. (Sol-Sisters) – Outdoor, Tier 2, Polk County

As time goes on, there will get to be a full marketplace of producers and wholesalers. I look forward to getting to announce more licensees over the coming months. Until next time, thanks for reading.
